Angela Newton Roy Photography bio picture
  • Hi there and welcome!

I am a photographer based in Northern VA, specializing in Interiors, Brands, and capturing the love of a family on medium format film. Having earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Virginia Commonwealth University and being a photographer for 8 years, I’ve been able to blend my love for capturing a feeling through an image with my love for spaces, people, and stories. Whether it’s the feeling of being inside a beautifully designed place, the feeling of a brand’s story and how it draws people in, or the feeling of a 3 year old’s tiny arms wrapped around their mother and the impossible joy felt at hearing their sweet giggle, my heart connects with each one of these and translates it into imagery that has soul and evokes emotion. I believe in telling a story, beautiful light, gratitude, and always seeing the beauty in life and in others.

This family.
Oh, this family. They completely turn my heart into mush. This perfect little baby boy, with his creamy skin and his perfect little lips and his stunningly gorgeous bright blue eyes, he literally is perfection. He is also loved. Loved beyond words by two people who could not be any nicer, more caring, or more kind. Lindsey is the kind of mom everyone wants to have. She was born to do this. Be a loving, nurturing, “give you the best hugs” kind of mom. She literally has a light that shines from within her, and you can see all of the love she pours into her son and into her sweet husband, Andy. You are a better person for having been in her presence, even if for just a little while. You walk away feeling lighter and happier.  And the love and support Andy visibly has for his sweet little boy and beautiful wife are so inspiring to see. You can just tell how much he loves these two, and how proud of them he is. And that nursery! We gottta talk about that incredibly adorable nursery! Lindsey is not only the best and most adorable mom, she is also a very talented Interior Designer! One of the owners of L&S Design in Richmond, she made this space absolutely perfect! From the adorable perfect prints on the wall above the crib, to the beautiful wood lamp and shelves lined with classic books and toys, and the really cute wooden growth chart that her friends gifted her. It’s such a serene and lovely space to watch her little nugget grow!

One of my favorite parts of this session are the last series of images. These quiet moments where a mamma is sitting with her baby boy. Lindsey often spends time with him just like this. Watching him sleep on her bed. I imagine the shape of his nose, the length of his lashes, the softness of his skin, and the curves of his lips are engrained in her mind from hours of staring as his perfect little face during these times. What special moments and I am so honored to have been able to capture this for her. These are the moments in life. This is what matters. And it couldn’t be more beautiful!

It’s the unofficial start of fall today, and with summer still dangling over us, but not entirely in our rearview mirror, I wanted to have a first-ever giveaway on the blog! After all of the beautiful adventures, travels, and everyday experiences we hopefully all had this past season, there can only be one perfect thing…

Artifact Uprising.

I have been working on a blog post about this company for months now. It’s a tall order to impart just how amazing they are. In my eyes, they have started something big in this industry.  A movement towards the tangible. Towards “off your device and into your life”. Towards community, and storytelling, and real environmental responsibility. No surprise to me though, because that is what the founders have always been. A force. A band of leaders. Innovators. Supreme storytellers.

Jenna, Katie, and Matt are the heart and soul of this company, and they pour their own into it every single day. Five years ago when one of those beautiful faces photographed our own wedding, I instantly fell in love with who they are as people, for all the same reasons and goodness that they show us in the every day wonderful things they do with Artifact Uprising. They have serious heart. They have serious passion. They are good, genuine people and their ships are guided by a light that loves, dreams, gives, and impacts. They ultimately influenced my life’s course, and I am sure once you get your hands on one of their beautifully crafted books, your picture life will never be the same again.

In honor of having stories to tell, a summer well lived, and all of the goodness they stand for, I am giving away one of their beauuuutiful 8.25″x11″ vertical or landscape 40 page large softcover books.

Not only are the Storytellers/Trailblazers/Denver-Dwellers/Good Life-Livers behind Artifact Uprising providing a product that treats Mother Earth right, they are some of the most authentic people you will ever meet. They walk the walk and talk the talk. They believe in sustainability and offer books, prints, and wooden products that promote this core value. Their book pages are made from 100% post-consumer waste recycled paper. Their wooden boxes are handcrafted in Colorado and made from deadfall beetle-kill pine, reclaimed from the forests they bike, hike, and ski in. They believe in this earth and they believe in treating her right. All of this amazingness aside, their books and products are gorgeous. Hands down. They are beautiful and truly unmatched. There isn’t another as lovely as theirs, and I think you will agree! Simply put, they are stunning.

So, enter below to win. Check out their website. Get your pictures, iPhone images, Insta’s and all that other mobile-beauty-goodness OFF of your devices and INTO their gorgeous books. Enjoy the story you are living.
In front of you.
In your own hands.
On these beautiful pages.

Jenna, Katie, and Matt – you have inspired me to to love, dream, do, reach, risk, jump, give, giggle-cry, and now…story-tell. Leading people to your light and your hearts is the best gift I can give others. Thank you for all you have given me!
